The cathedral burned on April 15, 2019 in a tragic accident. The exact cause of the blaze is still in question, but it was likely due to an electrical short. By the time the fire was extinguished, the building was severely damaged.

The Gallo-Roman town of Lutetia began to develop on the left bank of the Seine in the reign of Augustus (27 BC to 14 AD). This site was occupied by the Gaulish tribe, the Parisii, whose name features on coins recovered fromthe river Seine. In the first quarter of the first century AD, several small islands were joined together to form the current Île de la Cité.

From the middle of the third century right up until the fifth century AD, Lutetia which was threatened by the first Germanic invasions, was a strategic site for the defence of the Roman Empire against the barbarians. The Île de la Cité was fortified in 308, becoming the active centre of the city and the settlement on the left bankwas partially abandoned.

The Middle Ages saw the rise of development focused around the cathedral, whose construction began in 1163. This included the creation of a new street, the rue Neuve Notre-Dame, in line
with the central great door of the cathedral, the reconstruction of theHôtel-Dieu hospital to the South of the cathedral square and the construction of buildings and churches.

In the eighteenth century, many mediaeval buildings were destroyed to ease traffic and improve sanitation in the Île de la Cité. The squarewas extended, the rue Neuve Notre-Dame was widened and the Hospice des Enfants-Trouvés foundling hospital was built.

In the nineteenth century, the city prefect, Haussmann, carried out a radical programme of urban restructuring, destroying many old buildings and lanes. Barracks (which are now the police  headquarters) were erected at the back of the square, in addition to the currentHôtel–Dieu on the side of the square. The current layout of the square is the result of these major changes.

The Museum of Romantic Life is situated in a private mansion built in 1830 for one of these artists, a Dutch painter named Ary Scheffer. His circle of friends included Chopin, Lizst, Rossini, George Sand, Dickens, Turgenev, and Delacroix, to name a few. These artists gathered in Scheffer's mansion to exchange ideas, share their work and relax.  

The museum displays Sheffer's work – his paintings, sculptures, and other objects. Two leading figures of the day are highlighted – George Sand, the author; and Ernest Renan, related to Scheffer by marriage. The entire ground floor serves as a homage to Sand, the most popular author of her day in both France and England. Our Mountain tour is our most popular adventure and we can guarantee a magical way to experience the snowy mountains together with your friends and family. Meet our Huskies who will take you through the beautiful landscape to the sound of eager paws across the snow. When you arrive, your guide will give you a short driving and safety instruction before heading into the mountains. A guide will drive the first sled and you will follow safely in their tracks, pulled by your team of huskys. Don’t worry, there will be guides to assist you at all times during your journey. Each sled can have a maximum of 2 adults and 3 children.

Halfway into the trip we make a stop at one of the cosy cabins where you can get waffles and hot chocolate. There is of course also time to cuddle with the dogs!

Sen kan man (om man vill) få komma in i burarna och gosa med hundarna. Under sensommar och höst kan man även få följa med och träna hundarna. Antingen på flaket på vår pickup eller carts gjorda för max tre personer. Givetvis dras de av hundarna.

På Fjälläventyrs guidade vandringsturer på Fulufjället anpassar vi tempot så alla har en trevlig tid i naturen. Vi rör oss tillsammans med likasinnade till fots med vår egen packning på ryggen, och den erfarna guiden lär ut grunderna som behövs för att själv kunna ge sig ut på vandring i fjällvärlden under barmarkssäsongen. Dagen börjar med att vandra genom orörd gammal svensk urskog, vi ser lämningar från istiden och mer sentida spår av människa och klimat. På kvällen slår vi läger vid ett vattendrag och lagar mat tillsammans över gasolköket eller öppen eld, och vilar våra trötta fötter efter en dag full av intryck. Om vädret är fint sitter vi och pratar tills den korta natten är över oss, de som vill kryper ner i säcken och somnar till ljudet av nästan ingenting.

Känn fartens spänning när du susar fram över snön på Dalarnas högfjäll. Våra skoterturer tar dig upp på fjället, där vi gör ett kort stopp vid en av de mysiga fjällstugorna för en kopp varm choklad eller nygräddade våfflor.

Make your first night in a mountain tent an unforgettable time! Our skilled guides makes sure everyone get to enjoy a pleasant hike without stress and with likeminded people. We start by going through the gear, we pack our bags together and go through what to bring and what’s best left at home, how to load the backpack and how to carry it. Then it’s time to hit the trail. We navigate with map and compass to a beautiful spot and cook lunch over open fire or with the gas stoves we brought. When we have rested our feet for a while and are happy and fed, we continue walking towards the camp site. We pitch our tents, collect water from a nearby stream and start cooking the evening meal. If conditions allow we make a fire and tell stories until night is upon us, if the weather is bad we cozy down in our tents and let the sound of rain put us to sleep. In the morning we enjoy breakfast before packing down the camp. Without leaving a trace we head back towards civilization with a longing to get back out there again, with our home on our back and the map in our hand.

Day 1: We meet at our Outdoor store Nordic Adventure, Fäbodvägen 10. Here, we go through the gear and pack our backpacks. Our guides help you sort out what to bring and there is a chance to buy the things you’re missing. When the backpacks are ready we hit the trails!

Day 2: We wake up in our tents, get dressed and get going with preparing the breakfast. When the morning coffee has warmed our core and the we’ve eaten all the food, we pack down the camp and head back to civilization arriving around lunch time.

En packraft är en liten uppblåsbar gummibåt. Den väger bara några kilon och är lätt att bära med sig i packningen, ändå är den stabil och tålig nog för tuffa äventyr i vildmarken! Och framförallt, den är makalöst rolig att paddla med.

Eftersom båten väger lätt och är mycket tålig, och dessutom tar liten plats och är väldigt enkel att paddla med, lämpar den sig perfekt till att utforska små åar och vattendrag runt Sälenfjällen. På våra packraft-turer blandar vi paddling med lite vandring för att komma till de finaste åarna och utsikterna. Båtarna blåser vi upp på några minuter med luftsäckarna, vi flyter fram och paddlar längs lätt strömmande vattendrag. Den som vågar och vill får gärna utmana sig i enklare forsar, båten är stabil och tålig nog för riktig vitvattenpaddling. Välj en heldag med packrafting om du vill prova i lugn och ro, eller en tur med övernattning längs ån om du verkligen vill få ut det mesta av din upplevelse.

Hyra packraft: För dig som vill testa själv. Du kan boka för en dag online, men hör gärna av dig för att hyra över en längre period. Välj mellan den ultrakompakta och lättviktiga Kokopelli Rogue med TiZip för tuffa turer i vildmarken, eller Kokopelli XPD för en slitstark och pålitlig raft för riktigt tuffa tag. 4-delad Werner Skagit-paddel och Kokatat Aries flytväst ingår i hyran.

Heldagsturen: Vi möts kl. 10 i Lindvallen och går igenom utrustningen, och packar ihop dagens prylar innan vi tar oss till den älv eller å som vi ska paddla. Exakt rutt bestäms utefter dagens förutsättningar, vattenläge och gruppens ambitioner. Vi går i land och äter lunch längs ån när folk börjar bli hungriga. Räkna med att vara tillbaka kring 16-17 på eftermiddagen.

Övernattningsturen: Vi möts kl. 10 i Lindvallen och går igenom utrustningen tillsammans, det är mycket som ska med och det är viktigt att det blir rätt. När packningen är klar åker vi ut till startpunkten för själva turen, beroende på gruppen och dagens förutsättningar kanske vi vandrar en bit med packningen tills det är dags att blåsa upp båtarna. Dagen tillbringas till stor del på vattnet men med strandhugg för lunch. När det nalks kväll finner vi en fin plats att resa våra tält eller hissa upp våra hängmattor, sedan lagar vi middag tillsammans och skryter om dagens bravader. När morgonen gryr äter vi frukost, bryter lägret och paddlar vidare. Räkna med att vara klar kring lunchtid dag två.

Vi har under flera år erbjudit Sälens gäster att prova på hur det är att ha en hund. Våra hundar är otroligt vana och glada av sällskapet från människor, därför lämpar de sig bra för att följa med på fjällturer eller bara mys på gräsmattan. Du får givetvis all nödvändig information samt mat och utrustning för hunden. Skulle du vara intresserad av att hyra hunden under längre period går det också bra.

Våra promenadhundar har genomgått särskild utbildning och är dessutom speciellt utvalda för att passa de flesta familjer.
